African Students’ Academic Path at the Tlemcen: Academic Mobility and The Dynamics of Linguistic Territorialization

Abstract

This study examines how African students participating in academic mobility view and utilize the host university. African students saw the University of Tlemcen as a place where several linguistic and cultural communities coexisted prior to this wave of student movement. After arriving, they modified the area to fit their social groups and dialects, speaking their own tongues among themselves while interacting with Algerians in regional tongues. Because of this, the university can be seen as a social place that is influenced by the language habits of its students. Research demonstrates that academic mobility facilitates students' integration and appropriation of the university setting, but it also emphasizes the necessity of further research in other Algerian university contexts to ascertain the generalizability of these findings.
